The Joker has been one of the most popular and infamous villain in many Batman adventures in the comic books, live action TV, animated television series, and theatrical Hollywood movies. Batman, the caped crusader, is not only famous in North America, he is famous around the world. Batman made his original appearance in DC Comics just before 1940, making a guest appearance in Detective comics. The dark knight instantly became a favorite among comic book readers and fans so DC Comics spun the character of Batman into his very own comic book series with The Joker as his first nemesis in Gotham City, the fictional city where Batman resides and combats his many villains which include the Penguin, Mr. Freeze, The Riddler, Catwoman and other infamous foes that we remember from his television, movies and comic book. The Joker was memorable in both Batman movie franchises. In 1989 Tim Burton's Batman, legendary actor Jack Nicholson went under makeup as the maniacal Joker then in 2008, Christopher Nolan cast late actor Heath Ledger to create an even darker version of Batman in The Dark Knight, costarring Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent aka Two Face.
